BC surfer Peter Devries kills it in a 5/4 hoodie

Last year Peter Devries won the O’Neill Cold Water Classic in Tofino, British Columbia. His win propelled both Peter and BC surfing into the spotlight in 2009. Everyone knows there’s sick surf all over the jagged coastline in BC and the North West. But after seeing Peter’s raw power and unique style as he demolished the freezing cold lineup wearing his thick, 5/4 hooded suit, people started to wonder just how good it really was up there.
There’s definitely a new breed of surfer coming out of BC. And they don’t just have beards to look cool. Surfers in the North West are ripping as hard as surfers anywhere in the world and the surf media is starting to take notice. Some could argue that they don’t want the coverage at their home break. Some people think it’s good for the sport, and welcome the progression. But the fact is, surfing is one of the fastest growing sports. And with the latest wetsuit technology, this is even more true in cold water destinations. This growth will allow companies to market heavily on a local level, which will in turn allow the top surfers in the area more chances of turning professional, and create surf industry jobs for local dedicated surfers. It will also however increase the crowds in the line up. But whether you like it or not, Peter Devries rips in cold water peaks… and the surfing media has taken notice.

Fast forward to 2010, and Taylor Steels newest film project called Intersection.tv is currently underway. And Peter Devries section shot entirely in BC is being hailed as the best surf footage to have been submitted for the project to date. Intersection.tv uses the power of social media to gather the best footage from surfers all over the world, and allows the public to vote and pic out the clips that are going to be used in the movie.

Here’s how the Intersection.tv film project works
Surfers/filmers put their sections on the site. Members rate the sections on a 1-10 scale (week 2), which narrows the field down to Top 10 finalists. Then Members rank the Top 10 in order of preference: 1 thru 10 (week 3). After that, (week 4) we announce the winners and do it all over again.
The five highest rated surf sections will then become part of the Innersection surf movie. They will have the rest of the year to improve their section before it goes on the final DVD.
The final Innersection DVD will include the year’s top 20 sections — five qualifiers from four Rounds of competition. From these 20, you will decide which section deserves the grand prize of $100,000.
