A few weeks back Timberline was shut down due to storm control. But that can’t hold back Karim Hadid, Matt Hogan, Trevor Rome, or Mikey Fyans from having fun. A little muscle power and enginuity can turn a crappy day on the mountain into a photo opportunity.

Day One
We had originally set out to build this step up that Mikey had been scoping out for a while. We were a crew of 4. We had shovels, bins, beers, two DSLR’s and one video camera. But gnarly 40mph winds on Mt. Hood had shut Timberline down at about noon, which put our plans of hiking into the canyon on hold for the moment. With no intentions of wasting an hour and a half drive up to the mountains, Mikey quickly spotted the Chimney out of the corner of his eye and our plan quickly took shape. our idea was to build a quarter transition on the Chimney and have a nice jib session, and within minutes the shovels were out. After digging for hours in Mount Everest like conditions we decided that it was too windy to continue and the snow wasn’t really packing enough to dial in the lip. We all agreed to meet up early the next morning to finish the lip and start the session.

In the mean time we had found a nice spot to set up a drop in the lower parking lot of Timberline. We groomed the run in, built a small landing and parked Mikey’s car in the middle. The wind had died down just enough to hit it and Taylor grabbed some really sick shots. This is what snowboarding is all about, having a good time with your homies and making the best out of the worst conditions.

Day Two
A quick stop at Charlie’s to jump start our day and then we headed up to Timberline to session the Chimney. Unfortunately Mikey couldn’t make it this time but the rest of the original crew had made it there. We met up with our good friends Karim and Keenan from Auviq and told them about the Chimney jib we had been setting up. Karim had his flash kit and camera and said he wanted to come shoot some photos later on in the day.

After 10 minutes of dealing with crumbly snow we heard that Paintbrush was finally open after the massive spring snowstorm Hood was blessed with. So we all decided to make some park runs and come back later on after the snow warmed up and was much better for building. After riding Conway and Paintbrush for a few hours we met up with Karim and dialed in the lip. Two days of hard work had begun to pay off and the Chimney session was finally under way. We had hit the jib for about 45 minutes before Karim had to take off, but that was plenty of time for him to capture some really sick photos! The session continued for a hour or so before we all decided to call it quits and head home after another epic weekend on Mount Hood.
